Meet Your Hosts
Aaron & Susan – Tyrant Farms
Aaron and Susan are the husband-and-wife team behind Tyrant Farms. They’ve been together for over two decades and share a deep passion for sustainable living, family, and duck keeping.

They are parents to a spirited and opinionated toddler, as well as a flock of equally spirited Welsh Harlequin ducks. Their ducks are often diapered and spend time indoors—just like their human child did in the early years. It’s a modern, mixed-species household that embraces a blend of humor and practicality in everyday life.
Susan holds a degree in Biology from the College of Charleston, is a former ACSM-certified personal trainer, and currently works as a talented graphic designer.
Aaron has a degree in Political Science from Furman University, which he cleverly used to not go to law school. Instead, he became a writer and entrepreneur, known for pursuing big ideas and turning them into reality. He was one of the founding members of the farm at the James Beard-nominated Oak Hill Cafe & Farm in Greenville, South Carolina.
Together, Aaron and Susan grow, forage, and raise much of their own food, and they share a wealth of knowledge through Tyrant Farms and now Duck Keepers Corner. Their approach to duck keeping is rooted in science, experience, and a genuine love for their flock.
Melanie – Ducks of Providence
Melanie is the founder of Ducks of Providence and the heart behind its growing community of pet duck enthusiasts. Originally from Germany, she now lives in North Texas with her partner and their flock of beloved ducks.

Melanie’s lifelong connection to animals began on a small homestead where she was surrounded by ducks, chickens, rabbits, cats, and dogs. After years of living in apartments, she and Duck Dad finally settled into a home with a backyard in 2021, making her dream of keeping ducks a reality. Their flock started with three ducklings—Emma, Hertha, and Schnatterinchen—and has grown to include several rescued ducks: Penny, Simon, Ronja, and Krümel, a partially indoor duck who was found as a day-old duckling and raised by hand.
Professionally, Melanie is a scientist with a PhD in chemistry and a background in biomedical engineering. Now a college professor, she brings the same scientific curiosity and research-based mindset to duck care, diving deep into avian health, nutrition, and welfare using veterinary literature and peer-reviewed sources. Her goal is to provide fellow duck keepers with accurate, accessible information grounded in both experience and evidence.
Melanie started Ducks of Providence on Instagram as a way to share her ducks’ adventures with family and friends. To her surprise, the account quickly grew into a vibrant, supportive community. With more and more people seeking advice and resources, she launched a blog and YouTube channel focused on pet ducks and small backyard flocks.
Through her writing, videos, and now the Duck Keepers Corner vodcast, Melanie is dedicated to helping others provide the best possible care for their feathered companions—offering both practical guidance and a heartfelt connection to those who love ducks as much as she does.
